Instagram announced this morning they have updated their app to include Portrait formatted #photos! This is a huge step forward in providing users the features they want most in Social Media platforms. Owned by #Facebook, #Instagram said it will also be a way for them to capitalize more on the rise in videography users now crave. It will also put them in a position to capture market share against popular apps like Snapchat.
The new features will also allow users the ability to make choices in what portion of the photo they want to crop and/or keep, especially when using photos of groups of friends or landscape scenery shots. Well done Instagram!
“Square format has been and always will be part of who we are,” reads an Instagram press release. “That said, the visual story you’re trying to tell should always come first, and we want to make it simple and fun for you to share moments just the way you want to.”
Instagram users will be able to adjust the orientation of their photos to portrait or landscape by tapping on the format icon before editing. Once shared, the full-sized version of the photo will appear on other users’ feeds, but the post will still show up as a center-cropped square on users’ profile pages.
